Just a Fun Photo:
The Hebrew words we were surprised to find on this mural in the library at Vassar are Urim and Thummim and refer to objects found on the High Priest’s breastplate. Weirdly they are rumored to have had some connection to divination. More compelling, I think, is that the words can be translated as lights and truths. If you’ve got a funky photo you like to share on Drash Pit, send it my way. nhusid@gmail.com
DRASH PIT
A creative theme park where writers and other artists provide the fun-house mayhem and readers careen over their expressions flinging arms into the abyss shouting, “Whee!”

Have you heard? Drash Pit is delivering upgrades to you.
Here’s the skinny. After a brief lull for realignment and updating, Drash Pit will reappear with extra flash and a renewed sense of artistic commitment.
The new MONTHLY edition of Drash Pit - look for it in your in-box on September 29 - will feature revamped submission guidelines plus blogging and social media opportunities where contributors can discuss their work and the DP audience can talk back to their favorite writers and artists. Also look for news elements, interviews with industry insiders, inspirations, suggestions, contests, and the return of the ever-popular Daily Drash tweets.
The new improved Drash Pit will continue to feature unorthodox takes on Torah and prompts will still be inspired by these insights. In this audacious redux you’ll get the opportunity to read the ponderings of several different Torah tacklers as they contribute their thoughts and their own provocations to the great art of teasing apart text.
We’re instituting these Drash Pit changes to encourage a wider swath of creatives, fledgling and full-blown, to join our family of contributors. We’re also reflecting and redoing because we think it's important to shake up the status quo and see what falls out and what stays in.
Please stay in touch over the next several weeks. Tell us what you’d like the retooled Drash Pit to look like and be. We’d love your input as we refurbish. Drop us a line. We’ll get lonely without hearing from you.
Thank you for your patience and your support,

While You Await Our Return. . .
Take this opportunity to read, and view, our latest entries. Visit the Drash Pit archive. Type the name of your favorite contributor in the archive space on the entries page. Then sit back, relax and revel. You can pretend you’re at the movies too. On the ‘All About You’ page you’ll find Cannes quality films featuring some of our writers in live performance. Ok, they’re videos shot with a Flip but that little camera only puts 2.8 extra pounds on its subjects and we like it. As always, have fun and be inspired. And remember drash rhymes with mosh.
